The seaside promenade in Saint-Nazaire is ideal for bikes.

170 km of bicycle tracks

Some 170 km of bicycle tracks are marked out in and around Saint-Nazaire, both along the seaside and through the country. They are all accessible for easy family trips, that’s the advantage when you don’t have any mountain roads to climb! And yet, to be totally honest, when the wind blows from the wrong direction, it can slow your progress quite embarrassingly! A free map with all the tracks is available at the Saint-Nazaire Tourist Information Office.
And there’s more : Saint-Nazaire is the gateway to the famous cycling route La Loire à Vélo, "Loire by Bike". If you start your tour in Saint-Nazaire, or if, after cycling long the Loire river, you arrive in Saint-Nazaire to return by train, take an hour or so for a leisurely explorationof a 10 kilometre loop in Saint-Nazaire which leads you to the harbour, the seafront and the city centre.

Saint-Nazaire is linked to the Loire à Vélo route by the bridge which spans the Loire estuary. For safety reasons you are advised against crossing it on your bike. During the summer there are free shuttles, the rest of the year the taxis on both sides, Saint-Nazaire (00 33 240 66 02 62) and Saint-Brevin (00 33 240 27 23 07) can take you to other side, as does a regular bus, the LILA 17 (booking possible from Monday to Friday, 00 33 240 21 50 87).
